Our mission is to get to the root cause of chronic disease and prevent future illness. Our pillars are collaboration, education and empowerment.
We aim to collaborate with you, the patient. (After all, you know your body better than any one else.) We aim to give you back your power when it comes to your health. And we aim to provide you quality, evidence based information so that you can learn and grow.
The Institute for Functional Medicine describes our style of patient care as:
"a systems & biology–based approach that focuses on identifying and addressing the root cause of disease. Each symptom or differential diagnosis may be one of many contributing to an individual’s illness." Conventionally, patients are given a medication or treatment to address a symptom without the clinician or the patient understanding how the symptom became a problem.
In a common condition like blood pressure, instead of just prescribing a pill to "get your numbers down", we delve into the physiologic, anatomic, genetic, enviromental, and psychologic causes.
As our providers are all classically trained in Western Medicine, we still prescribe traditional medications when appropriate, but seek to treat the root cause. We focus on evidence based treatments, and are constantly reading studies and going to conferences to receive cutting edge information. When we started seeing patients in 2017, we opened our doors as Restoring Balance Family Practice. After many of our patients commented that it wasn't like any Family Practice they had been to, we realized that The Functional Medicine Center better describes who we are. Our practice is owned by Kathryn Godly, PA-C, who is featured in the video above. Kate has a bachelor's in Biochemistry, a PA degree from St. John's University in New York; She is a yoga teacher, a lactation consultant, a Reiki practitioner and also just added muscle testing to her skill set. She is currently working on her Master's in Nutrition and Functional Medicine from the UWS, a joint program with the IFM.
The Functional Medicine Center is for everyone! We are an LGBTQ affirming practice. We treat newborns to elderly. Many of our patients are uninsured and find us looking for reliable care without insurance. Many patients with insurance have insanely high deductibles and find it costs them less to get their care with us than if they have to pay their deductible. As we are never constrained by insurance authorization or denials, you can get the care you seek, efficiently and cost effectively.
We specialize in autoimmune disease, diabetes, hypertension, thyroid disease, hormonal imbalances, food allergies, SIBO, chronic infections like EBV, mold and tick borne illnesses.
